Asking help with dog food

We are Yongin Animal Protection Association, YAPA, a non-profit organization located in South Korea, made up of a small number of volunteers to rescue dogs. Including the representative of YAPA, all 8 staff members in YAPA are volunteers. Not a single donation is personally spent, and all donations are 100% dedicated to our dogs. It was the YAPA founder's strong will from the beginning, and we truly follow it and keep this promise.

There are about 500 dogs in YAPA's shelter. These dogs are either born on the street, abandoned, or lost and then brought to the city shelter. Small and pretty dogs may find their home, but large and timid dogs are often neglected and left behind. City shelters in South Korea have a euthanasia policy. If not adopted or find their owner within 14 days, the dogs get euthanized. We rescue these dogs from city shelters, take care of them in our shelter, and find their home domestically or abroad in the USA, Canada, or Germany.

From one city, 6-7 abandoned dogs come into the shelter every day, and our organization rescues dogs from two cities, Yongin, and Gwangju. We are doing our best to find a warm family for our dogs, but more abandoned dogs are coming to our shelter, than dogs who get adopted every week. As a result, our shelter is suffering from overpopulation.

These 7 items are the monthly spending of the Yongin Animal Protection Association.

  1. Sawdust for the dog house
  2. Medical care ( incl. vaccination, spay surgery, and any emergency medical care )
  3. Facility maintenance ( i.e. shelter repair, fence, playground, heating, etc.)
  4. Dog food (4 tons/month)
  5. 4 full-time staff salaries (1 trainer, 1 staff for managing city rescued dogs, and medical treatment, 2 staff for shelter maintenance, and daily needs, such as cleaning, feeding, and maintaining shelter equipment. Taking care of 500 dogs requires an incredible amount of work every day. To make sure our dogs also get enough time to socialize with people and to stay healthy, many volunteers help on dog-walk, and weekly deep cleanings)
  6. Fees for dogs boarding school (Many dogs who get rescued from city shelters have trauma. We try to find a foster home for them as much as possible but it is not always possible. Dogs that require special training or need to be kept separate must go to boarding school)
  7.  Basic items for caring for dogs such as garbage bags, leashes, canned food, harness collars, etc.

Regarding dog food, to feed our +500 dogs, we need 4000 kg every month. As feed costs 1,5$/kg, we need 6000$ for our dogs to get fed every month.

The monthly donations we get are far insufficient to feed our dogs. As the number of dogs increases, our burden on dog food fees gets heavier and heavier every month. If... If.. only 600 people could support us every month for 10$, all our dogs could eat enough. For some people, it’s not a big amount of money, but our dog's life is dependent on it.

Our devoting staff and volunteer members are like you.  Each of us helps our dogs in various ways, in the evening after their work, on the weekend, and on their holidays. It would be YAPA’s goal to give the best care to our rescued dogs, who already had a hard life. We want to give enough food, clean water, and delicious snacks to them.

Every dog deserves love and care. Please help us.
